Position Summary

NDT Consultancy Services Inc. is seeking an experienced API Certification Instructor to deliver short-term training courses for API 510, API 570, API 653, and API 580. The instructor will be engaged on an as-needed basis for courses lasting approximately one to two weeks.

The successful candidate will provide clear, practical, and exam-focused instruction to inspection, engineering, maintenance, and asset-integrity professionals. The instructor must possess strong technical knowledge of applicable API codes, standards, inspection practices, and industry applications.

Courses to Be Taught
  • API 510 – Pressure Vessel Inspector

  • API 570 – Piping Inspector

  • API 653 – Aboveground Storage Tank Inspector

  • API 580 – Risk-Based Inspection

Candidates may be considered to teach one or more courses based on their certifications, expertise, and teaching experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and deliver structured classroom or virtual instruction for assigned API courses.

  • Explain applicable API codes, ASME requirements, inspection methods, calculations, and examination concepts.

  • Develop or use approved course presentations, exercises, quizzes, sample questions, and supporting materials.

  • Teach practical applications using relevant inspection and industry examples.

  • Guide participants through code navigation, problem-solving techniques, and exam preparation strategies.

  • Evaluate participant understanding through assignments, discussions, quizzes, and practice examinations.

  • Answer technical questions accurately and provide additional support when necessary.

  • Keep course content aligned with the current API Body of Knowledge, examination requirements, code editions, and applicable addenda.

  • Maintain attendance records and provide participant evaluations or course-completion information as requested.

  • Deliver training professionally and in accordance with NDT Consultancy Services Inc. policies and quality expectations.

  • Protect confidential company, client, and participant information.

  • Provide feedback to management regarding participant progress and opportunities to improve the training program.

Engagement Terms

This is not necessarily a full-time or continuous position. Instructors will be contacted when a training requirement is confirmed. Each engagement will normally last one to two weeks, depending on the course schedule and client requirements.

Assignment details—including dates, location, delivery method, compensation, travel, accommodation, and course materials—will be agreed upon before the instructor accepts an engagement.

Requirements

Required Qualifications
  • Current or previously held API certification in the course being taught, preferably API 510, API 570, API 653, or API 580.

  • Demonstrated experience in pressure-vessel, process-piping, storage-tank, mechanical-integrity, or risk-based inspection activities, as applicable.

  • Strong working knowledge of relevant API and ASME codes and standards.

  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, inspection reports, calculations, and technical documentation.

  • Strong verbal communication, presentation, and classroom-management skills.

  • Ability to explain complex technical subjects clearly to participants with different experience levels.

  • Proficiency in delivering training through classroom presentations and virtual platforms.

  • Availability for short-term assignments lasting one to two weeks.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Five or more years of relevant inspection, engineering, mechanical-integrity, reliability, or asset-management experience.

  • Previous experience teaching API certification-preparation courses.

  • Multiple active API certifications.

  • Experience working in oil and gas, petrochemical, refinery, pipeline, power-generation, chemical-processing, or storage-terminal facilities.

  • Familiarity with adult-learning methods and technical-training development.

  • Additional credentials such as ASNT, AWS, NACE/AMPP, NBIC, or related industry certifications are an advantage.
